Reviews
I'm not a big fan of quotes, but here are a couple that surprised and encouraged me recently!
-----------------------
"I was really impressed with the drummer that was proving the Scandinavians are running the roast these days as far as technique and ability to play with people from other musical countries and horizons." Pierre Perrone, theJazz Jury, theJazz DAB digital radio, December 2007
"The rhythm section responded sensitively to Brown's rich, soulful lines with understated shifts of groove, managed with cool flexibility and a seemingly inexhaustible stock of imaginative fills by drummer Jonas Backman. Even within busier textures and during Sheriff's lush solos the pervading impression was one of warmth and subtlety." Stef Connor, Jazzwise, July 2007
"Much of the material had a decidedly New Orleans Meters thing going on and I quite enjoyed hearing some no nonsense grooving in the context of the jazz festival. Jonas Backman as always was great on drums and suited this style of playing perfectly." Ade Stevenson, The Ring Modulator from Manchester Jazz Festival Thurs July 31 2008

Bibliography
Jonas Backman was born in 1976 in Vasa, Finland.
He started to play the drums as a 9-year-old in a local church. At the age of 12 he took a break from playing and became interested in music technology instead. As a roadie in a small sound system company he started to mix the front of house and monitor sound at the age of 16. During his B.Sc. studies in Electrical engineering (1995-1999) his interest in drums came back mainly because he had missed the feeling he gets from playing the instrument. After having taken private lessons (1995-1998) and attended evening classes at the Kuula institute of music (1998-2000) he decided to move on to full time music studies at SYI Rytmmusik in Jakobstad Finland. Backman left Finland for England in the Autumn of 2002 aiming to grow as a musician. After graduating from City College Manchester he carried on working as a freelance musician as well as a drum tutor. Jonas moved to Stockholm, Sweden, in the autumn 2008 and is hoping to continue his career as a musician.
